When $21 million for 14 trail projects was line-item vetoed in April, Parks & Trails Council of Minnesota launched its Bridging the Trail Gap initiiative. Thanks to citizen donations of more than $20,000 and the dedication of $300,000 from Parks & Trails Council's Samuel H. Morgan Land Acquisition Fund, money is now available to help grassroots organizations purchase some of the land in the vetoed projects.
The requirements are simple. The project must be from one of the 14 trail projects deleted from the 2010 bonding bill. The minimum project request will be $50,000 with a maximum of $100,000. Preference will be given to projects providing matching money equal to 10 percent of the project cost. Parks & Trails Council will be the sole easement owner, with the expectation that the land eventually will be sold to the state.
Application deadline is Nov. 29
