Nominations for 2008 Parks & Trails Council Awards now being accepted
The Parks & Trails Council of Minnesota invites the public to submit nominations for the 2008 Parks & Trails Council Awards. This is the inaugural year for the awards, which will honor the volunteer contributions of individuals and organizations who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the excellence, health, conservation, and open access of the state's public parkland and trails.Recipients will have demonstrated a commitment to the excellence of Minnesota's public parkland and trails in one of seven categories:
Access
This category honors efforts to allow underrepresented, immigrant/refugee, or new communities to experience public parkland and trails
Arts & Communications
This category honors exceptional artists and communicators who have contributed to the excellence and experience of Minnesota parks and trails.
Business
This category honors efforts within the world of business to the overall excellence of the public system of parks and trails in Minnesota.
Community Service
This category honors work by volunteers in direct action, such as organizers of buckthorn busts or clean-up efforts.
Education
This category honors educators of any subject who contribute to the excellence of parks and trails, including K-12 teachers, professors of higher education, and leaders of extra-curricular learning.
Government/Citizen Action
This category honors efforts through legislation, advocacy, citizen participation, or by units of government to contribute to public parkland and trails.
Science/Technical
This category honors contributions through research or applied science or technology, including the work of naturalists, planners, engineers, social scientists, and others.
Award recipients will be honored at the Parks & Trails Council's Ball of the Wild on April 24, 2008, at the Nicollet Island Pavilion in Minneapolis.
Nominations for the 2008 awards are due to the Parks & Trails Council by Tuesday, January 8, 2008. Nominations may be hand-delivered, mailed, e-mailed or faxed.
