Brett Feldman named Parks & Trails Council executive director

April 22, 2010 (St. Paul, MN) – The Parks & Trails Council of Minnesota is pleased to announce the appointment of Brett Feldman to the position of executive director. Feldman will lead the 56-year-old organization in its mission to acquire, protect and enhance critical lands for the public’s use and benefit.

Regional Workshops for Parks and Trails Legacy Fund set – Make your voice heard!

One of the most important aspects of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment passed in 2008 is the development of a framework to guide future spending from the Legacy Fund for parks and trails. Essentially, this is an opportunity for Minnesota—and Minnesotans—to decide how important parks and trails are and to set priorities for projects of regional or statewide significance.

Bonding bill moves again – only to encounter line-item veto pen

After being in legislative limbo for the last two weeks, the Conference Committee on HF2700 reconvened last week and the House and Senate approved a bonding bill just shy of $1 billion. The Conference Committee attempted to reach agreement with Gov. Tim Pawlenty (who threatened to veto the entire bill two weeks ago) by adding in his top priority projects.

OLA issues critical report on DNR land management

On March 5, the Office of Legislative Auditor (OLA) issued a report on natural resource land management.  The report focuses on Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) acquisitions, DNR and Minnesota Board of Soil and Water Resources Board (BWSR) easement management and payment-in-lieu of tax (PILT) issues.
