The state’s newest recreation area at Greenleaf Lake, halfway between Litchfield and Hutchinson, got one step closer to reality thanks to the Parks & Trails Council of Minnesota, which purchased core land for the outdoor adventure haven on Dec. 6, 2007. By acquiring this first parcel, we preserved the 386-acre tract that contains nearly all of the shoreline along the two lakes within the authorized Greenleaf Lake State Recreation Area (SRA) boundaries, and took a giant step toward realizing our vision of having a state park or recreation area within 30 miles of every Minnesotan. The 1,200-acre SRA will provide a variety of recreational opportunities in a natural resource-rich setting to both current and future generations while also providing the local community with the many quality of life benefits that come along with parks and recreation areas.
