painting of waterfall with birch trees

By Rita Corrigan

Rita Corrigan paints in oil and soft pastel, and communicates her love of the north shore landscape through her paintings. She has traveled widely. Nevertheless, she returns time and again to paint and explore this landscape that calls so specifically to her inner spirit. Stability of place and subject has allowed her to give us her unique focus on this area that many know and love.

“The main thread in my work is a reflection of the beauty, light and color of the natural world. I am drawn by the dark patterns in the trees against the lake, the rocks reflected in the blue of Superior, all balance between the water and the earth. There is magic in the boulders, the craggy rocks, and the smooth sharp edge of the Superior rock where just a dark stroke of blue and raw umber will give it weight and shape and anchor it in the water or to the ground.”

If you cannot make the reception, visit the Tettegouche Visitors Center between 9:00 & 4:00 daily during February to view and enjoy Rita Corrigan’s north shore inspired paintings.
