From Friends of Lake Maria State Park

white tree-like mushroomWild mushrooms will be the focus of a program at Lake Maria State Park on Sunday, September 15, beginning at 1 p.m. at the park’s nature center. Ron Spinosa, noted mushroom expert and member of the Minnesota mycological society, will be the featured speaker, covering identification and collection of Minnesota’s wild mushrooms.

His presentation will begin with a power point program featuring photos of edible and poisonous mushrooms. Following the indoor presentation, Mr. Spinosa will lead a short hike in the forest to look for wild mushrooms. Collecting mushrooms for personal consumption is allowed in Minnesota State Parks.

The program is free, but there is a $7 daily vehicle permit fee for those without an annual permit. Lake Maria State Park is located approximately seven miles northwest of Monticello, five miles north of Maple Lake and 10 miles northeast of Annandale on Wright County Highway 111.  For more information about directions and activities, call the park at 763-878-2325.
