Dr. Maureen Reed named interim executive director

The Parks & Trails Council is pleased to announce that Board Member Dr. Maureen Reed has been named as the organization’s interim executive director. Reed took over June 1 following the departure of longtime Executive Director Dorian Grilley.

“It’s wonderful to serve an organization like Parks & Trails in a different capacity during this transition period,” said Reed, who relinquished the seat she has held on the board since March 2007 to take on her new role. “Parks & Trails has a tremendous reputation and has been served well by a strong board and by the previous executive director.”

Raised in Redwood Falls, and a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School, Reed practiced internal medicine in the Twin Cities for more than two decades and also served as the medical director and vice president of HealthPartners.

Reed was a member of the University of Minnesota Board of Regents for eight years and chaired the board during the search process that landed Robert Bruininks in the president’s seat.

Because of her concern about health care in Minnesota, Reed ran for lieutenant governor on the Independence Party ticket with Peter Hutchinson in 2006. Comprehensive health care reform, education, transportation and the environment were central to their campaign.

Reed and her husband, Dr. Jim Hart, live just west of Stillwater in Grant, Minnesota. They especially enjoy hiking on the nearby Gateway Trail, the North Shore’s Superior Hiking Trail and the beautiful trails in Minnesota state parks.

Reed is assisting with the search for a permanent executive director and is not a candidate for the position. A position announcement is available on the Parks & Trails Council’s Web site at www.parksandtrails.org.
