NSTT has a great year planned for 2021. Let’s look at our upcoming events. On February 20, we went to William O’Brien State Park for a snowshoe/walk event. Park buildings were not open, so it was an outside event. Walkers and snowshoers came out and enjoyed a nice day in the park, warming up by the outside fire. 54 folks joined us for the day!
On May 8, we’ll go up to St. Croix State Park for the event we had to cancel last year because of the coronavirus. Four different options will be available, including a challenge route and a do-it-yourself route.
In July we’ll hold a two-event weekend out by Willmar with a walk at Sibley State Park on Saturday, July 17 and Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center on Sunday, July 18. At Sibley, we will hike along the lake, through the prairie, and for the not-so-timid, a hike up a mountain. Later in the day, there will be a naturalist walk in the prairie for a little history lesson. Sunday at the Prairie Woods ELC, we’ll walk through prairie, woods and around pothole ponds. And for those who did not get enough walking, there is a challenge course where you can climb a 25-foot wall or up a rope ladder to some zip lines to swing from pole to pole.
September 9-14, NSTT will sponsor its second club trip, this time up in the Ely area. We’ll do sanctioned walks at Voyaguers National Park, the Boundary Waters, Bear Head Lake State Park, Lake Vermilion, Soudan Underground Mine, Trezona Trail in Ely, and a couple of fun walks to Vermilion Falls and Kawishiwi Falls. Some of the activities will have limited participation, so early registration is recommended. If you are interested in the trip, email firstname.lastname@example.org to get your name on the list!
We finish off the year with our annual meeting event at Minnesota Valley SRA on October 30.We hope to be able to go back to a guided walk, along with our fantastic potluck lunch, finishing with the annual meeting and lots of door prizes.
Please watch for email alerts and Facebook updates throughout the year so you don’t miss out!
