2020 Annual Dinner

×

Canceled due to COVID-19

As our nation and state continues to respond to this pandemic, we sadly will NO longer be able to host our Annual Dinner as planned on April 30. Rather than trying to reschedule the event at this time we will continue to follow the lead of federal and state health experts to determine if and when it is prudent to do so.

Thank you for your patience and for all the support you provide in this work of acquiring, protecting, and enhancing the critical land for the public’s use and benefit.

Keynote Speaker: Travis Novitsky

Nature through the lens of an

Anishinabe Photographer

A proud citizen of the Grand Portage Anishinabe Nation and manager of Grand Portage State Park, Travis Novitsky will share his spectacular nature photography.

Travis has found peace and beauty in the night sky, which lately has been his prime subject. “I have experienced many nights where the silence is deafening,” he says. “To hear that silence you need to push everything out of your mind and let yourself truly be in that moment.”

Reuel Harmon Awardee: Steve Thorne

Honoring an

adept advocate for state parks

The Reuel Harmon Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exemplary service and outstanding achievement on behalf of Minnesota’s parks and trails.

This year’s honoree, Steve Thorne, helped overcome local opposition to expand Tettegouche State Park in 1979, he helped negotiate a complex deal to create Grand Portage State Park in 1989, and has dedicated countless hours volunteering for numerous environmental nonprofits, including as president of Parks & Trails Council.
